The expression blue-chip stock comes from the chips used in betting games like poker. These chips, or counters, vary in worth from red (cheapest) through white to blue (most valuable—typically worth ten times the red). So, a blue-chip stock is one prone to giving the best return on a venture.

Born in Tehran, Iran, I emigrated to the USA in 1979. I work as an educator and aspire to be a professional writer. I'm working on my second novel now. What I'm working on is a detective novel involving a sociology professor who, in the 70's, fell onto a FBI conspiracy to cover up illegal deeds undertaken in context of a counterintelligence program (COINTELPRO) in the name of national security.
